Enter the park and pass by the Ranger Station, making sure you have your Discover Pass posted on your vehicle. Cross over the swinging bridge, up the steps to the 25 trail marker. Set compass to 200 for about 22 strides. You should see the no bikes allowed sign. After a little while, the trail splits like a "W" - take the center/middle lane. Follow til the trail takes you through the narrow rock channel. See the fallen decomposting log on the left? (About 120 on the compass you'll see a large tree). Take 23 steps and peek around that tree base. There the fox is hiding in its hole. Please rehide well!!
To move onto Box #2 - the Osprey. Retrace your steps to the 25 trail marker. Facing the 25 trail marker, set compass to 300. Continue on trail 25, and pass the 21 trail marker sign. Follow around the rocky bend, and you will come to the 4 way intersection. Follow to the right, towards the sound of rushing water. When you come to the "Y", you should be able to see a real osprey next directly ahead. Look for babies in the spring! When you are standing at the Y, set your compass for 130. Go right towards the sound of the river, come around the curve and look for the wooden "snake" on the hillside on the right. Directly facing the next again, the box is in the upward side of the wooden snake under some rocks. Careful with your steps and rehide well.
Moving on to box #3- Horses....
Go back to the Y and this time, head up the hill. Follow the trail along the river going downstream. You'll see a large pine on the right at the bottom of the steep incline as it levels off. Measure 44 steps, stop and look to the Left to a big rock at 030. Spot a pair of pine trees with a rock at the base and you should find your horse friends there. Be careful, b/c you just might see some horses around here, or what they leave behind on the trail!!
