Drive up to the Plummer Peak LookOut. You will see a big knarly, spreading Oak tree. On the east side of the tree are lots of knot holes. In one of these holes is the little red letterbox.

The original Lookout was erected around 1933 by a CCC crew. The Lookout is open May-October.

Just follow the signs off Hwy 3 south of Hayfork to Rattlesnake Rd. Go 1 mile and just before the end of the pavement, turn right onto an unmarked dirt road. Follow that road past Philpot Campground. There's a green gate near the junction of USFS roads 30N31 & 31N29. This gate is locked when the lookout is not manned. It's about 1 mile up a LONG STEEP NARROW road to the lookout so you might not want to take a low-rider type car with bald tires!

When you get to the lookout be sure to hail the crew and be mindful of his dog. Be sure to go up to the lookout and ask for a tour and sign the visitor log. The view is amazing!
