In 1997 my friend Elizabeth who was the Brattleboro Hospice Bereavement Coordinator conceived the idea of creating a place for folks who've lost loved ones to gather, remember and plant a memory garden. Over the years this bare hillside has been transformed into a garden of loving memories for people who live in and visit Brattleboro. An arbor is hung with remembrance flags; two dry stone walls built by volunteers under the guidance of master builder Dan Snow embrace the garden proper. It's a good spot for a picnic.
There is a parking space at the garden which is across from the house at 140 Guilford Street.
After enjoying the garden, travel back down the path to the parking area. The path's entrance is flanked by two large boulders. When facing the entrance the flat stone on your left has a top piece that has sheared & shifted away. Clear the leaves (watch for ants!)and reach inside.
