Terrain Difficulty: Easy (slight slope, 400 yards RT)
Status: alive
Buena Vista, Spanish for "good view", is nestled at the foot of the Continental Divide near Mt. Princeton, one of Colorado's 14ers. It is also located along the Arkansas River and is known as the white water capital of the world. You can see both the mountain and water from the River Park just east of town, where this box dedicated to the Princeton University mascot is located.
Directions:
From Hwy 24 go east on Main Street to where it bends right. Go left on gravel road into the River Park, go past soccer field and park near restroom building.
Clues:
Walk to restrooms and go down steps to kiosk for trails and a bridge across Colorado River. Cross bridge and go about 90 steps on the Barbara Whipple Trail to a huge boulder on right. Go left uphill about 15 feet to a pine tree next to a boulder behind another one. Go up 3 more steps along second boulder to a crevice between rocks. Letterbox is within under smaller rocks. Enjoy the view of Mt. Princeton as you stamp in.
