QUICK SUMMARY

This letterbox takes you on a great hike into Moore Park with a beautiful view of Upper Klamath Lake along the way. The trail itself can get steep at points. Prepare for an hour hike both ways and be sure to bring water and snacks.

SUGGESTED SNACKS
- Tillamook Medium Cheddar Cheese, 8oz
- Tillamook Cinnamon Hazelnut 2% Farmstyle Greek Yogurt
- Anything Tillamook

DIRECTIONS

Go to Moore Park through the main entrance and follow the road into the back, being sure to stay left of that strange Gingerbread House.

If you're driving, park at the green gate that blocks off the road. Walk around that green gate and follow the paved road as it curves a bit. Keep your eyes open for Hayride Trail on the left. Take that trail.

Keep walking along Hayride Trail. You should pass over a tiny little wooden bridge after around ten minutes. The trail can be muddy in the spring, so be careful not to slip and spill your cheese snacks! Keep moving along until there's a gap in the fence to your left. Turn left through that gap.

A trail will merge into your trail from the left. Stay right and walk a few more yards.

You'll see a sign for Ridgeview Trail at a new intersection. Turn left there.

Keep heading up until you reach a somewhat confusing intersection of trails. There should be a Gooseberry Trail marker on a trail to your right. Turn left onto this path. It should be guiding you steadily uphill.

You will quickly reach a fork in the paths with a tree making the fork. Take the left path. This path is a switchback that will rock you up the mountain like a newborn baby.

After the first curve, smell the ponderosa pine on your left. Do it.

A triangular intersection will eventually appear. Stay right.

The trail will get rockier and steeper, but check out that view! You should start getting a great panorama of Upper Klamath Lake and its islands. Gorgeous!

Another trail should merge into yours. Remember to keep right so that the mountain is to your left as you walk, and the lake is to your right. If it gets too steep, take a breather and contemplate your favorite food. (I sure hope it's Tillamook cheeses!)

You should pass through a log that has been man-cut. You're almost there!

Finally you'll see a green-blue, rusted station wagon crashed into the hillside. Nature at its finest! Follow the trail as it wraps around the car. At the sharpest point in the elbow of the path, hop off the trail. There should be a large, mossy boulder to your left.

Search around the base of the boulder for your new Tillamook stamp!

Congratulations, and be careful on the way down!
