Distance: ~2 miles
Terrain: Mostly wide and level abandoned roadway through wooded areas

In late 2013 we planned a trip to the east coast for July 2014… and then 6 weeks before we left, the “Summer of Eevil” assault was launched! Unfortunately we had a lot of house projects underway and of course Martini Man was also busy at the office. However we diligently spent our spare time tearing our hair out over the Eevil clues that we thought might be in states we would be traveling through. We solved a few before we left and a few more were solved as we were enroute. Sadly a few more were only partially solved and others proved to be utterly beyond our comprehension. We needed a few more brain cells and maybe an Eevil compass to point us in the right direction! We had one, but we couldn’t figure out how it worked, so it was no help to us. In exasperation and despair, we left it in New Jersey. Maybe it will be more help to you, so here is a map to help you find it:

It’s not too hard to figure out because this isn’t a truly Eevil box!

Start at the trailhead in the parking lot and take the trail to the right. Continue forward ignoring side trails so you are traveling on the south side of the lake. You can choose to travel on the old road or a trail closer to the lakeshore.

When you reach a fork in the road, take the sinister route to travel between the lakes.

As you travel west/northwest, watch for a ~2' long flat orangish rock on the right. From the rock, take ~20 steps on a bearing of 130 degrees. The Compass of Eevil is at the east end of a ~5‘ long rock, under smaller rocks.

Please replace it well so it isn’t discovered by the Eevil one or his minions.

You can retrace your steps to return OR continue forward and cross the small stream connecting the upper & lower lakes. Make your way up the hill and you will reach another abandoned road. Travel southwest to return along the opposite side of the lake

We live quite a ways west of this box (~700 miles as the raven flies), so we won’t be able to check on it ourselves. We’d therefore appreciate an email to let us know if your quest was successful. We hope the compass will help you find some Eevil boxes. We’ve only found 9 so far, but we’ll continue to drive ourselves crazy until we solve more of them.

Hike length: 1-2 miles
