A Collection of Stamps by Suzy P.

You will find Thornton Brook Preserve in Coventry on Pucker Streett between mailboxes 419 and 475 .There is a small parking lot marked by the trail sign. Park and walk parallel with the white fence as you walk back towards the woods. We are walking straight on an old farm road. Walk past the mowed path on the right as you enter the woods. Count 38 paces to the ledge of rock on the right. Look under the largest rock behind flat stone. Here you will find Suzy’s first carving …a bat. And her second carve …. A sword. Suzy was 12 years old when she carved most of these stamps. Box 1

Continue on the trail. Turn right at the intersection following the trail. Pass a trail on the left. Soon on the right there will be a HAND PAINTED SIGN. BEWARE OF COYOTES. This sign is painted pink and has a paw print on it. We did not encounter coyotes on the times that we have hiked here. Here there is a trail to the left and if you look up the trail you will see a large log lying on top of a rock wall. You are in the correct spot if you can see a tree stand diagonally across from the log. Go investigate the left end of this log for Suzy’s Charlie Brown Tree. Box 2

Get back to the main trail and continue past the coyote sign watching for a 5 sister gray birch and a 3 sister on left side of trail near the remains of a stone wall. From road/trail walk 16 steps on the right side of wall. Look low in the wall. This is Suzy’s mug of cocoa. Box 3 .

Continue on the trail the way you were going. Avoid all the right hand side trails. Our trail goes left up hill and then parallels a rock wall. Do not go thru the rock wall opening as our trail goes left paralleling the rock wall. There are a few orange pieces of tape marking your way. Walk until you find where 2 rock walls meet (in the corner, there is a metal boundary pipe with orange tape tied to it ) . There is an opening where the walls might have met .Walk through that opening where the 2 walls should have met. Turn right and take 8 steps along the back of wall. Look low in the wall. Here is Suzy’s Happy Anniversary. Box 4 .

Get back on the trail heading the way you were going. When you come to another stone wall, walk over it you can go left or right. Go right. You will come to a 4 way intersection at the opening of a stone wall. ( on right ) Keep going straight with the rock wall on your right. Trail turns left following another rock wall on the right. There is a large maple tree on the right .Go behind the maple tree and look to the left for a large quartz rock in the wall. Suzy’s Mary Poppins carving is low in the wall. Box 5 .

Continue on the trail and you will arrive at the beginning of your circular walk around this preserve. There will be a trail to your left. Go up this trail 14 steps to a large rock. Look under the rock that is leaning on the bigger rock. Here you will find Suzy’s carved heart. Box 6 .

Go back to the intersection and walk straight ahead to your car.
