Hudson Crossing Park is an island created by the Champlain Canal. It is about 10 miles east of Saratoga Springs, just north of Schuylerville.
The park's creators' mission is to tie environmental responsibility to economic revitalization and to engage people of all ages in making informed choices for a sustainable future.
One of the coolest features of Hudson Crossing Park is the Play Garden. An "alternative playground area" with balance beams, a sand table, and tunnels. Everything is designed to fit into the natural landscape. The pavillion is a neat structure, too. It's an extremely peaceful area, with lush flower gardens, mosaics and a stone labyrinth. Hudson Crossing has a few different easy walking trails that follow the parameter of the island. All of the paths have signage and information about the native plants and animals, along with environmental facts. On your way back, you can explore Riverwalk Sensory Trail. This path has little boxes that you hand crank to power audio stories about the local area and Hudson River. It's a fun way to pick up some history while on your walk. Check out the pedestrian bridge also. Because of Hudson Crossing's location along Lock 5, it's a good spot to watch boats move through a working lock. The lock displaces 3.5 million gallons of water in 8 minutes when lowering the boats. Impressive!

Clue:
Pass Lock 5 and park in the first parking lot you get to. Enter through gorgeously crafted gates and have a quick look at the area map. Check to find Island Loop Trail. Now head uphill toward Champlain canal. You will follow the trail almost all the way to Eagle Point. Should take you about 20 minutes.
On your way, you are passing amazing old trees, woodpeckered and rotting, but still standing two-sister giants, berries to eat, sumac to make lemonade from. You'll come to the point where the Island loop trail would take you back and you can now hear the Hudson rapids. Don't go back yet, you need to treck on toward Eagle Point. Migrating gees, ducks, seagulls and lots of crows can be observed here. But where are the eagles?

Before you reach the tip of the peninsula, you will have noticed square rock blocks along the trail. Find the spot where two square blocks (probably remnants of a bridge) are on your right. Logs are lying around to keep them company. Four logs, hewn by man, are standing like sentinels. The letterbox is hidden under the shorter square block, under a corner, waiting for you to create your Scene!

Please be mindful of other people who enjoy this newly created treasure of a park. Make sure you continue to the end of trail to take in the mighty Hudson.
