his stamp was carved by my son Phillip (16 at the time) as a Christmas present. It represents our "letterboxing dog" Luxa. And we had originally (2011) planted it in a location that DEFINITELY represented our family! But last month I was notified that a new chain was placed across the entrance to the logging road where we hid the stamp. A huge unfriendly signs says: "do not trespass". So I had to relocate Luxa to a new home.
Incidentally, this new hiding spot is going to be very close (walking distance !) to our future family residence in Saratoga Springs. So Luxa's move worked out just fine

CLUES:
FIND Saratoga Springs on the map and locate the Hemlock trail parking area on Crescent Avenue across from the Racino. Yup, that's where we are moving to! Google Maps shows it on the east side of I87, but Hemlock Park is between Rt.9 and I87, so west of I87. It's small, but look for the Racino and you'l find it
The Hemlock is a coniferous tree that likes moist, cool temperatures, especially in summer. That's why they like Canada. Just like us. Hemlocks tolerate heavy winter snowfalls better than most trees. Just like us. They don't like drought. Unfortunately, moist means mosquitos - so bring the right equipment when walking this trail from June through August.

Start out your search from the trail sign that points you right, along the blue trail. At the Y-intersection take the right branch. When you get to the first bridge and found JEDS' first box, continue on blue trail. It finally turns a bit away from the road, goes left. Soon you will pass a multi-trunked tree on your left. Keep moving, leaving the street noise behind you. When you get to two large trees on left, put the breaks on. One is an oak and it has trail markers for coming and going on it. The other one is a large pine tree. Could it be a hemlock? Now look for a log with lots of broken off branches, it's on your right. That one is good for sitting on while stamping in. Don't sit yet! Stand right between the two large trees, if you could. But you can't because a little tree has taken root there and is claiming that spot. From this young tree between the two grandmothers take 20 steps into the forest, away from street. You will happen upon a multi-trunked maple. That's the perfect hiding spot for Luxa.
Please re-cover the box well, so that it cannot be spotted from walking path.

Please return to blue trail to find the other three JEDS boxes or turn around and walk back to the parking lot the way you came.
