Around the globe, the Chinese New Year celebrations will take place based on February 19, 2015, which is the start of the Lunar New Year. Preparations for the New Year often begin during the last month of the lunar year. It is an auspicious occasion, and great detail is taken in its readiness. The home must be cleaned thoroughly. The past year's dirt is swept away, and clutter is straightened out. This is done so that negative aspects of the past year are not brought forward to the New Year. On New Year’s Eve, family members must return to the parent's home for a special meal together. Various foods are prepared and eaten because of their symbolic significances. The food must be abundant, and there must be some left over at the end of the meal. The New Year will therefore start with plenty. It is hoped that there then will be abundance throughout the year.
In Chinese Astrology there are five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal and water) and twelve animals (rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig) forming a complete cycle of sixty. This means there are five different types of Sheep years: wood sheep, fire sheep, earth sheep, metal sheep and water sheep. 2015 is a Wood Sheep year.

The Year of the Sheep heralds a calmer atmosphere. This will be a year for contemplating and appreciating what has already been accomplished, to think about bringing goodness to others, to take a deep breath and calmly look at what's ahead. A steady path, generosity, and keeping the peace are this year's mantra.

People born in the Year of Sheep are tender, polite, filial, clever, and kind-hearted. They have special sensitivity to art and beauty and a special fondness for quiet living. They are wise, gentle and compassionate and can cope with business cautiously and circumspectly. In their daily life, they try to be economical. They are willing to take good care of others, but they should avoid pessimism and hesitation. They are generally mild-mannered and incurable romantics. The sheep needs the security of family and views spirituality as an important aspect in life. Sheep people will also walk that extra mile in getting what they covet, especially if it is something that will provide them security or physical comfort. They have a generous heart and can always find some space in them to forgive and forget. The sheep's unpleasant side however indicates that it is indecisive, dependent and cannot live without the benefaction of a patron. They are overly secretive and don't take too well to discipline. They love to complain and prefer to pussyfoot around an issue. Sentimentality forces them to view life with rose-tinted shades.

General Sheep characteristics: Lucky, attract prosperity and comfort, emotional, feminine, compassionate, artistic, graceful, timid, good Samaritan, a shoulder to cry upon, kind, perceptive, eccentric, whimsical, indecisive, insecure, pessimistic.
Traits for specific Sheep years:
METAL – Feb 17, 1931 to Feb 5, 1932 and Feb 15, 1991 to Feb 3, 1992. Traits: Inscrutable, protective, unstable, ambitious and kind-hearted with a strong sense of responsibility in work; sometimes too stubborn.

WATER – Feb 4, 1943 to Jan 24, 1944 and Feb 1, 2003 to Jan 21, 2004. Traits: Soft, weak, passive, always ready to help others, and they can sacrifice their own interests for others.

WOOD – Jan 24, 1955 to Feb 11, 1956 and Feb 19, 2015 to Feb 7, 2016. Traits: Sentimental, devoted, practical, amicable, gentle, and compassionate.

FIRE – Feb 9, 1967 to Jan 29, 1968. Traits: Active, outgoing, outspoken, amicable, frank, and honest, always making everything clean and tidy.

EARTH – Jan 28, 1979 to Feb 15, 1980. Traits: Hard working, sensitive, self-reliant, righteous, honest, straightforward, and will never harm their friends.

Under the influence of the Wood Element, the Wood Sheep becomes one of the most nurturing and caring of the Sheep types. Members of the Wood Sheep sign can be quite introspective, which allows them to develop a quiet wisdom. Although reserved, the Wood Sheep wins over many friends and companions with their compassionate and kind nature. As natural counselors, the Wood Sheep does well at lending support, especially of the emotional variety. In their romantic relationships, the Wood Sheep is known for affection, loyalty and adoration.

CLUES:

Start the New Year in the parking lot where you might find an open “sheep shed” and grazing spots for 1 sheep or 2 sheep. Take a deep breath and calmly look for a verdant trail in the southwest corner of the lot. Amble onto it and when faced with a choice, don’t be indecisive - take a right. Be practical and stay straight through the next intersection. Remember that you should be willing to walk that extra distance to get what you covet! Keep on a steady path until you reach a signpost at a T.
Contemplate your choices and take 50 lucky steps to the left. Your quiet wisdom guides you to stop at a tree on the right with a twisted Y behind it. From here don’t pussyfoot around, just take 10-12 steps on a bearing of 110°. You’ll find the sheep is bedded down in a hollow log, protected by log gates. After making her acquaintance, kindly tuck her back in her home so she can continue a quiet and peaceful life.

Appreciate what has already been accomplished, then return to the signpost, cautiously and circumspectly cross the bridge and continue along the green trail until you perceive your starting point.

In honor of the Year of the Sheep, you may want to start/end your search with a meal at aisA Restaurant (16150 W National Ave), or at China nogarD (15820 W National Ave).

"Kung Hei Fat Choi!" (Cantonese for "Congratulations and be prosperous!")
