One of the best discoveries you can make is your local Library- and Library letterboxes are some of our favorites! So a big Thank You to our friends at NBPL for agreeing to let us plant a few boxes for others to enjoy!

“The only thing you absolutely have to know is the location of the library.” – Albert Einstein

So to begin your quest, start at this location:

15105 W. Library Lane

Park your vehicle and make your way toward the library entrance, but before you go in, take a few moments to look around the small courtyard outside of the main entrance. You may want to take some notes, you will need to do some research to find what you are looking for.

A) Off the center of the courtyard flies how many flags? __

B) There are spaces to park your bike, and places to sit, how many benches are around the courtyard area? __

C) On the west facing side of the front of the building is the year the library was built, what is the year? ____

Now come inside the Library, you will notice just as you walk in, a large plaque to your right on the wall. On the bottom of the plaque contains another quote:

“The doors of wisdom are never shut.”

D) Who is the author of the quote? ________ _________

Make your way to the large open atrium area, the main check out desk is ahead to your right, upstairs is part of the adult/ young adult library with lots of great study and reading areas. As you look up you will see there are two more quotes, one on the southern facing wall, and one on the northern facing wall.

E) How many words are in the quote on the south-facing wall? __

F) How many apostrophes are in the quote on the north-facing wall? __

Go up the stairs (or use the elevator) to the second floor, there you should make your way to the reference desk; they are friendly and helpful there (but your on your own with this box!).

G) How many lamps are on the reference desk? __

From the reference desk turn and face SOUTH and follow down the rows of books to the seating area straight ahead. This area has lots of cozy spots to read and a fireplace to keep you warm- but look around-

H) How many fireplaces are there? __

I) What is the first letter in the direction you just faced to walk toward this area? __

With all this research, you should have all the clues you need to find your first box- you will need to use your Dewey Decimal skills to find this one!

To get the number of this box insert the numbers and letters from the lettered clues above:

E- G -H . A- F -I -C (last number) -C (first number) -B - D (5th letter of first name) -D (6th letter of last name)

__ __ __ . __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __

Good Luck with your first box- you should be able to find a cozy place to stamp, please be quiet and respectful of other patrons and discreet of box location.

Now on to the next box!

You will want to make your way back downstairs and back outside. This time walk straight ahead and then turn around, you should be facing south looking at the Library entrance. You should see a special brick on the front of the building, on the left side of the entrance, what is it the location of?

1. (2 words) ____________ ______________ (you need to know the 2nd and 3rd letter of 1st word)

Now head back inside and once again go to the open atrium area, head east from the main check out desk and then turn right to face south- you should be walking past rows of shelves heading toward the YOUTH library entrance.

Enter the Youth area and follow the rows south toward the windows. In the center, before the windows you will see the Youth reference desk and you will notice there are computers located around this area, some mounted on the walls- they are your computerized card catalogs! Find one you can use -(the librarians are happy to help you if needed!) time to do some more research!

The author Lewis Carroll wrote a classic story about a girl who has WONDERFUL adventures-

2. What is the name of the 4-word sequel to this story? ___________________________________________
(you need to know the 3rd word)

The youth library had a WONDERFUL Librarian who worked for many years and recently retired, across from the reference desk is the story room which is dedicated to her-

3. What is the name of the Librarian the room is named after? ________
(you need to know how many letters are in her name? )

The youth library has lots of areas to sit and read, but there are also some special study areas, just north, or right of the family restroom -

4. Facing the study rooms, the one on the left is “Room ___” ?

Go back to the card catalogue (computer) and see if you can find your last two clues (or check the shelves in the “Series Collection” area if you want to find the answers!)

Author Carolyn Keene wrote a famous book series about a teen girl detective-

5. What is the name of book #2 in the ORIGINAL series? ______________________________
(you need to know the second word of the book name)

Author Franklin W. Dixon wrote a famous book series about a pair of teen boy detectives-

6. What is the name of book #1 in the ORIGINAL series?_______________________________
(you need to know the 3rd word of the book name)

** HINT on above 2 clues - you might really need to use YOUR detective skills to find these on the computer- the ORIGINAL copyright dates for these books date back to 1930 and 1927!

You should now have all the information you need to find the last box!

Use the six word clues you just found, in order, to make up the phrase you need-

________________________________________________________________________________

Now make your way to the reference desk and repeat the phrase to one of the friendly and helpful Youth Librarians at the desk (they are the only ones that can help you), they will give you what you seek! Please be patient if they are assisting other patrons.

You should be able to find a spot here to stamp as well, (please do not stamp in at the reference desk) and again please be quiet, respectful and discreet- and return letterbox back to Librarians when you are finished for others to enjoy!

Hope you enjoyed your time at the Library and enjoyed finding our boxes! Happy Reading and Letterboxing!

“The more that you READ, the more things you will KNOW. The more that you LEARN, the more places you’ll GO!”
- Dr. Seuss

Box updates appreciated- Thanks!
