Distance to Letterbox: 25 yards
Difficulty: Easy

Here is the story behind the box from the Historical Marker: Born in Jasper County, Georgia. Moved to Texas in 1835. Taught school at Coles settlement. In Texas revolution served as 3rd corporal, Co. D, 1st regiment. Piloted ferry for Texas army at San Felipe during General San Houston's retreat, in 1836. Fought under Houston at the victorious Battle of San Jacinto same year. Later lived in San Felipe and on his land grant near Round Top. Was senator from Fayette County in State Legislature, 1853-1857.

Directions:
From Round Top, go north on Hwy 237 to Hills Rd. Turn left and go to Cemetery on the right side of road, pull in and park behind building.

To the Letterbox: First, walk in middle on edge of cemetery to view his grave, then return to the road and walk to right of building to the green fenced trash and Outhouse area. Go to far side tree and look at its base in the lilies, and under a rock, for the box.
