Enter Lake Park from North Lincoln Memorial Drive just east of the intersection with Lake Drive in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Park your car at Picnic Area 6. Follow the asphalt path as it proceeds southwest into Lake Park. The road on the right will terminate in a cul-de-sac by Picnic Area 3. Look left at this point to find a small asphalt path marked with a wood fence leading down a hill. Follow the path down the hill until it intersects another asphalt path that parallels a road. Continue right on the new path. Note the rugby fields to your left across the road as well as the view of Lake Michigan. As you walk you will pass a gravel running track and then encounter an old stone wall to the right of the path. Continue 70 more paces down the path from the southwest end of the stone wall. Turn right and face the woods. Two paths lead into the woods. One of these paths will lead you in the correct direction. Which one should you choose? Venture down either path and follow the clues. Stop under a gray iron trellis bridge. You should be standing on the third bridge of the correct path looking up at the trellis bridge. Count the vertical iron beams that support the bridge and record this number as A: _____. Count the number of “4-leaf clover patterns” that decorate the bridge and record this number as B: _____. Continue down the path for (A + B) paces. You will see a tee-pee stick structure and a staircase ahead a short distance. Climb the staircase to an asphalt path. Take a bearing of (A + B) degrees and walk 110 paces down a grass path formed by two rows of trees. You will be standing in front of a large tree at the end of a gravel access road. Count the number of windows on the tallest structure and record this number as C: _____. Behind the structure you will find an asphalt path watched by stone guardians. Go to this path and read the historical marker. Record the height given at the end of the first paragraph as D: _____. A man on a horse waits a short distance down the asphalt path. Determine the number corresponding to the last letter of the man’s name and record this number as T: _____. Don’t get kicked as you stand behind the horse! Take a bearing of (D + D) degrees and walk to the edge of a grass field. You will pass a small wood structure on the left while walking. Face 210 degrees and walk to a multi-branched tree with numerous depressions in the tree trunk. Walk T paces on a bearing of 240 degrees from the southwest side of this tree. Your prize is located approximately six feet up. Use discretion while stamping up as the park is heavily used at all times of the year. Return to the stone guardians to begin the search for the second box in the series. You may want to count the number of guardians present and record this number as L: _____. Begin your search for the second letterbox at the historical marker between the stone guardians. Walk along the asphalt path keeping the lake on your left. You will pass a small exercise area on your right. The eighth bench is near a road that names the beach below. A dark brown fence begins on the left of the path a short distance from this road. The single trail becomes three trees at the end of the fence. Keep right and follow the Oak Leaf Trail signs. Be careful when crossing the street! A large structure sits on an island a short distance from the street crossing. Note the year that the structure was constructed and record it as E: _____. A sidewalk proceeds south from the island. Add 6 to the sum of the digits in E and walk this many paces down the sidewalk. Read the historical marker on the large object to the left. Continue up the stairs, count the number of benches and record this number as F: _____. An east sidewalk is accessible near some of the benches. Walk to the end of this sidewalk. Carefully cross the street on a bearing of approximately (F x 9) degrees and walk to the bench on the other side of the grass. Take time to rest and admire the view. Count the number of boards on the bench and record this number as G: _____. Walk G paces to a large tree. Continue southwest along the tree line for (G * 7) paces. A trail leads down the hill at the tree line. Old fence posts mark this trail. Be extremely careful as you start down the hill. The path is quite steep and can be slippery when wet. Stop between the second and third fence posts. Turn around. A tree is partially covered by an old piece of rusty fence. The second prize rests underneath this tree. Stamp up, return the box to its hiding place, and retrace your path back to the stone guardians to start your search for the third box in the series. Begin your search for the third letterbox at the historical marker between the stone guardians. Walk along the asphalt path keeping the lake on your right. The path branches right at a large parking lot and then curves to the left past a structure. A bridge will be visible to the right at the end of the structure. Continue across the bridge and down the trail. Two asphalt trails will join the trail that you are walking on. Walk (L x 5) paces past the intersection with the second trail. A large tree stands near a Y-shaped tree at 55 degrees. The third box waits for you inside. Reach up! Be especially careful at this box because of your high visibility! Be sure that no one is around when you remove the box. Stamp up, and using the same high degree of secrecy replace the box for others to find. Continue north along the asphalt path to return to your car.
