Castroville is known as the "Little Alsace Of TX", but it is also the Poppy Capital of TX. Nowhere else in Texas do Alsatian Red Poppies bloom in such amazing profusion, usually between March and late April. During this time you can also see many blooming plants, butterflies and birds at the Castroville Regional Park, where this letterbox can be found.

Directions:
From San Antonio go west on Hwy 90 to Castroville and turn left on Lower La Caste Road to visit Steinbach Haus, which has many poppies and information. Continue west on Hwy 90 to Angelo Street and turn left, then turn right on Florence Street to see more poppies. Continue on Florence Street to Naples Street and turn left, then turn right on Lisbon Street for more poppies. Continue on Lisbon Street to Alsace Ave and go straight into parking lot for trails of Castroville Regional Park. Park by trail head.

Clues:
Walk up the steps and go left at trail jct onto Birding Trail. At next jct go straight on Helen's Way Trail, passing by the pond on the left. At end of pond where trail goes under tree branches, look right for 2 Yucca plants about 5 steps off trail and a medium tree to the right of them. Letterbox is behind the tree under rocks.
