Background: Shekou is an area in Shenzhen, China, where many expat families live as well as many Chinese citizens from around the country. It makes for a very interesting community with residents from around the world! But…finding these penguins in Shekou is quite a surprise! At least they aren’t too far from Sea World, so they kind of fit in.
From Sea World: The map on the website does NOT show the location accurately, follow the clues!
Walk along Wanghai Road, which is between Sea World and the bay, towards Gong Yuan 8th Road, on the north side of the road, the same side as Sea World. If you are standing on Wanghai with your back to Sea World, then you need to go to your left. When you get just across from the end of Coastal Rose Garden Phase 2 (where you will see The Boathouse Restaurant and Silver Palette Grocery) Look for a stone path that enters a small garden area. If you reach the “Nanhai Rose Garden West” bus top, you have gone too far.
To the box: Follow the stone path and you will find the penguins! This is a statue titled “Family.” As you stand facing the penguins, also looking at Coastal Rose Garden 2 across the street, the penguin on the farthest right will be pointing his beak, look in the bush right next to him in the direction he is pointing.
You are looking for a camouflaged hanging bag. Please be sure to carefully put it back in place when finished, making sure it can’t be easily seen by those not looking for it!
