(Continues from Mt. Pisgah State Park Box #2 Treasure Hunt)
Susannah and I heard the howl of a dog in pain right after we had looked at Timothy’s treasure. Susannah always wanted to help people and animals in need of help, so we went to look for the dog. We went back on to my sister’s namesake trail and headed 270*. After we had passed two trees with funny yellow marks on them, we saw a group of five white trees.

After two more yellow marked trees, we went 130* to the water’s edge. Susannah and I went up the hill toward Old Hutch’s cabin. On our left were some Black Birch and some Hemlock. Also, on our right were some Oak and Hemlock. Kids weren’t allowed to go through the gate, but we continued anyway.

Farther on ahead on the left we saw a large, uprooted hardwood. We went eight paces into the forest on our left. I could tell that we were really close because the barking was very loud. I thought the dog was under a fallen tree with a tire under it, but Susannah wasn’t fooled.

She went over to a standing hollow tree with woodpecker holes drilled in it. Inside the hole in the tree was a cute little beagle puppy that had gotten stuck and couldn’t get out. We took the puppy home and asked our mom if we could keep him and she said yes. We named him Hunter.
