Start this letterbox journey at the main picnic area in Mansfield hollow state park. This is past the lading dock if you're coming from the Walmart area, or past the husky spirit shop if you're coming from the Uconn campus/big y area. Park in the top parking lot near the picnic area and water pump.
To begin the search for the letter box go on the blue trail. This trail starts in the right corner of the park behind a yellow vehicle gate.
Upon starting the blue trail stay right on the sandy path. At the second split continue right toward the trail marker 3. At the next split after trail marker 4 stay right and go down the cool mountain bike trail.
Contine down the trail until you reach what could be a water runoff on the left, a little while after the rock gathering circle.
CAREFULLY Make your way down the steep hill until you make it to the bottom between the two ponds.
Once reaching the bottom there's a small footpath that breaks. Feel free to check out the ponds but know that you have to go left, up the hill.
Continue down the main footpath go up and down the hills. Stay straight.
Head up the last steep hill until you reach the road, turn right and begin hiking the red path. Hike down the red trail, there's a fallen tree at the base of the hill.
Shortly after the fallen tree there will be a tree with a red trail marker painted on it on the right. The tree has giant woodpecker holes in it. Face this tree dead on and then turn 180 degrees. Head into the woods, climb over the first log and walk straight until you find the big pine that has one vine going up it's side. Turn right , there will be a striped dead tree with wood pecker holes in it. The letterbox will be at it's base under a dead root.
To hike out, go back on the red trail and continue the way you were going. Take the first left and hike out into the field.
