This Lb was planted in honor of the Original Red Gate which had been planted in Meriden, CT in 2004 and now is reported missing. This one is located at Pennyfield Lock in Potomac. This site was a favorite spot for fishing expeditions by President Grover Cleveland. Park your car in the parking lot to the right after the one lane bridge. Walk over to the boat launch and notice the tunnel under the canal. Head to the left of the boat launch and over the tunnel, you will find a blue marked trail leading to the right. Follow this path as it meanders through the woods. Stop when you see a fallen tree across the path. If you get to the concrete pad, you've gone too far. Look under the frayed edges of the fallen tree and you'll find what you are seeking. Bring your canoe or kayak and enjoy the canal and river while you're here.
