This letterbox is part of the GO and Find Your Hero! program in York County, PA. It will be available from May 30, 2015- August 16, 2015. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.
The GO and Find Your Hero! program requires you to search for up to 30 “autographs” of community heroes. These “autographs” are wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression from the engraved plate onto your GO and Find Your Hero! rubbing page, available at any York County library.
The letterbox is located at Horn Farm Center for Agricultural Education. GO York! level of difficulty = Moderate
- Park in the gravel lot by the greenhouse.
- Walk slightly downhill (toward Route 30) and locate the gate opening in the fence behind the greenhouse.
- Walk through the gate and immediately turn right. You will be walking uphill now.
- When you reach the pump handle, turn left and proceed along the mowed path in between the fields. Please be aware of and do not touch the electrical fence on your left.
- You should be walking toward a treeline. When you reach it, the path will turn to your left and meander around the end of the treeline. Continue along this path as it does this and then proceeds back uphill.
- As you walk uphill on the path, you will notice white bee boxes in the distance ahead. Local beekeepers attend to the hives in these boxes.
- About halfway along this path, you will notice a break in the treeline on your right. There will also be a dip in the path as another trail intersects with it.
- Turn right at this interaction and continue back toward the main farm area. This area may be muddy depending on recent weather conditions!
- You should again be walking between two fields. Just before reaching the road, turn left and continue along the edge until it curves slightly.
- You should notice a mowed section of grass across the road. Carefully cross the road here and walk up the hill toward the brown structure.
- The autograph you seek may be found near the white sign.
- To return to your vehicle, carefully cross the road again and walk on the grassy section back down the hill.
