Box 1
'Dam Builders'
Blue Heron Golf Course, Medina
Moderately hard terrain(big hills)

Greetings all! I've been letterboxing for years, but haven't actually posted any until now. I'm taking a Hunting and Wildlife project in 4-H this year, and that finally motivated me to start. You hunt the boxes(though I hope you don't shoot them...) and I'm putting in info cards on Ohio Mammals, which are wildlife. It works. Hopefully you learn something you didn't know.

If you're looking for this one, bring the Box 2(Nutty Nibblers) instructions as well, by the by(they sort of connect). And a compass and bug spray. Also, long pants; there's a bit of bushwhacking involved and possibly poison ivy...

~INSTRUCTION~

Going South on River Styx Road, you'll pass a yellow, triangular 'left curve and 40 mph' sign on the right, just after the Ridgewood intersection. On the left side of the road directly after it, before you go under the trestle, there's a white picket fence with two driveways going through it. Pull in the second one(further south)and park. To the right of the parking lot, there's a paved trail that goes up a little hill to a bridge. Take it over the bridge and keep going South at the fork, cross under the trestle and continue straight across the boardwalk over the creek and under the freeway. Continue up the BIG hill, go right at the fork at the top. From the crest of a hill not too far on, you should be able to see the former clubhouse(I think it's a catering place now?) on the next hill over. Go down the hill to a bridge, passing the beaver pond on the right(is he home? We haven't seen him in a while, so we think he may have left, but the dam's still there. You also may see one of the herons for which the place was named). DO NOT go on the bridge. It's liable to fall down and kill you. Seriously. Stand on the pavement facing away from the left post of the bridge(that is, the left side when you're facing North, but the right side when you're actually facing away from it); head across the concrete and down the hill at a 240° heading until you run into an eroded area where a stream runs from a pipe. Go around it to a cluster of three ash trees(they're at the same heading, but you can't go across the hole without getting really muddy); they're sort of pale so you shouldn't miss them. Enter the woods where those trees are and look uphill. You should see a large, grey rock directly on the uphill side of the furthest tree. Pretty much in line with the trees and rock, but a little further up, is a big brown rock. The 'Dam Builders' box is behind it, under some sticks and leaves. That's the end of this box, but the next one(Nutty Nibblers) starts off immediately where this one ends, so you may as well do them both. If anything is broken and/or missing and/or the landscape changes, you can contact me at: tiredmom5kidz@yahoo.com.

Post script - it occurred to me that this is a Dam box, off of River Styx Road. Congratulations, Percy Jackson fandom. I should have made the stamp pad blue. Ah well.

*Update - November 2016* The hill is very covered with tall grasses and thorny stuff now. BUT if you are very intrepid and have long pants, the box is still there, and the directions are the same. Just exercise caution.
