John Palliser was commissioned by the British government in 1857 to lead an expedition to investigate the resources of the largely unexplored expanses of the Canadian West. His team began its quest through the uncharted mountain valley the British explorer called Kananaskis Pass, named after a local Indian who had made a remarkable recovery from an axe wound. Today this area located just west of Calgary is called Kananaskis Country, and is both a stunning and convenient location full of vacation activities for everyone. One of these is Barrier Lake Interpretive Trail, where this letterbox can be found.

Directions:
From Trans Canada Hwy 1 go south on Hwy 40 past the University of Calgary Field Station and Barrier Lake Dam then turn right into Bow Valley Provincial Park at Upper Barrier Lake. Go left at intersection to Barrier Lake Upper Day Use Area and park.

Clues:
Walk on Barrier Lake Interpretive Trail to jct and go right to viewpoint. Just before view is a sign about Birth Of A Lake. Walk behind sign 12 steps to second pine tree on right. LB is at back base under a large rock.
