We’d like to give a special thanks to the Library Director, Ms. Adele Loria, who has given us permission to keep this letterbox here, and to one of the Adult Services Librarians, Ms. Rachel Ruetz, who answered all our questions and helped us to create a fantastic box.

Just a friendly reminder; this letterbox is hidden inside a library. The staff is aware of the letterbox, but, of course, the library patrons are not. Please use discretion in looking for clues and especially in finding and replacing the box on the shelf. Happy hunting!

Start by going to the Pauline Haass Public Library (N64W23820 Main Street, Sussex, WI).

1. Before you walk into the library, look at the engraved bricks across from the library entrance (next to the Sussex Civic Center Building). Find the brick that says “I read banned books.” What is the name listed on this brick?

2. Once inside the library, examine the brass plaque above the “Book Drop” sign. What is the middle initial of the final name in the list of “Village of Sussex” officials?

_

3. There is a sign hanging above the Reference Desk. What does it say?

4. Go to the History section and find the book under the call number 940.5308 YEL. What is the second word of the title of this book? (If the book is not on the shelf, go to a library computer and do a Keyword Search. In the “Search By:” area, choose to search by ISBN. Then, input ISBN code 0 – 7432 – 4514 – 8. You will then find the title of the book.)

5. How many “Iron Man” sculptures are there around the library?

_

6. Next to the Booksale Room, there is a display of artifacts about the fine lady that the library is named after. What was her year of birth?

_ _ _ _

7. Go to the Facts and Figures section and find the series of books under the call number 031 WOR. What is the title of the series?

_ _ _ _ _    _ _ _ _

8. Back to the Reference Desk. There is a world globe on the corner. What is the name of the sea located on the International Date Line between 45 degrees and 60 degrees North?

9. Now it’s time for a trip down memory lane as you venture into the Children’s Section. (Be very careful as this is a high-traffic area) Locate the Nonfiction book with the call number J788.9 TEM written by Bob Temple. What is the second to last letter in the title? (If the book is not there, follow the steps included in #4, using the following ISBN code 978-1503831858.)

_

10. Back to the Adult section. In the Business and Finance section, on the edge of one of the shelves, there is a quote by Christopher Morley. What is the second-to-last word of the quote?

_ _ _

11. Last but not least, travel to the music section. Find the CD with the call number POP/ROCK Radiohead OKC. What is the first word of the title of the CD? (If the CD is not there, enter “Radiohead” into the Keyword search and scroll down until you find the one album with the word ‘computer’ in the title. This is the correct CD)

_ _

12. It’s time to put together the clues. Place them below in the following order: #6 (second number), #5 (only number), #10 (entire word), #1 (third letter), #11 (first letter), #7 (third letter), #11 (second letter), #4 (third letter), #8 (fourth letter), #2 (only letter), #9 (only letter), #3 (first letter).

Your prize awaits in the Biography section. Please be cautious in returning the box to its spot on the shelf. Once you are done, please take some time to enjoy the library. It has a great collection and always lots of interesting events happening.
