Dinosaur Birthday Letterbox
We placed this box to celebrate B’s 8th Birthday!
We hope you enjoy this easy 15 minute hike!
• Park your car in the Mattabesett Trail parking lot on the west side of Route 77 (4.4 miles north of the intersection of Route 80)
• Enter hiking trails through the parking area opening and continue straight on the flat, wide orange/blue blazed trails.
• Pass Bluff Head Cemetery on your left and pass underneath a fallen tree
• When you come to a small open area where the trail bends right (north), we thought the air smelled like maple syrup – could it be the maple trees? Pass through a fallen tree.
• Look for a fallen tree with exposed roots on your left, immediately after the roots, the trail splits. Go right (east, staying on the orange/blue trail)
• Note there are many small trees fallen across the trail. Look for one that has become part of the earth, as a natural step with a small maple tree in the middle of the trail.
• Walk 110 kid (80 adult) steps from the earth-step looking for a ‘V’ shaped fallen tree on your left. We created a rock stack in front of it.
• You will find the letterbox in the middle of the ‘V’! Enjoy!
