Box 6
'Pocket Pals'
Roscoe Ewing Park(Champion Creek Trail), Medina
Very easy and flat - completely paved

You probably don't really need bug spray for this one, but it's always a good idea, just in case. You do need a compass, though. Or a very good sense of which way is North. :) Please read all the instructions beforehand, especially if you have time constraints or just want a shorter hike.

~INSTRUCTIONS~

Park in the Medina Library lot off of South Broadway Street. Go inside the library. Get a book. No, seriously. Do it. You're right there. It actually has nothing to do with the instructions, though. SO. After you do that, go out to the South Broadway sidewalk on the East side of the road. Take it South, past Garfield School, Family Video, etc. Once you cross the train tracks and Champion Creek, take the paved multi-purpose trail East over two bridges. Notice the ridiculous amount of knotweed on the banks of the creek. It's invasive for a reason. But tasty. The trail goes past an electric station on the right and winds between a few apartment buildings. Then it sort of becomes the sidewalk on Springbrook Drive, until the road dead-ends. Continue on the path past Medina Village, into Nichols Park. There's a bench a short ways up where a gravel trail branches off. Take it South. Two mown trails branch off to the East near the end, take the second one through the pine grove. It eventually comes out into part of the frisbee golf course; if you go North you'll get back to the pavement. Follow it across Guilford Boulevard.(You'll get the exact same place by just following the pavement for the whole time. The gravel is much more scenic, though). Pass Roscoe Ewing Park on your left. (For the shorter route, just park at Roscoe Ewing and follow the directions from HERE. Or if you don't like books and don't want to go to the library.) The trail travel parallel with the train tracks. Cross a bridge and pass Hole #9 on your left(why is it called a hole? I have no idea); continue into the woods. Go across the dotted line(a bunch of bricks buried in the ground; it's actually kind of clever) and pass the train trestle on your left. Look for deer. When I was there, one came within, like, an inch of me. It's kind of freaky. There's one more bridge to cross, and beyond that is a random set of railings on either side of the trail(maybe to keep people from falling into the creek? Like guardrails? No idea). On the LEFT side, count four posts up. Directly in line with post four, down the hill towards the creek, is a rock(I know, there are a lot of rocks. The first one that's actually in line with it, though). Count one rock to the right(it has a crack in it) and then two rocks straight down. The second is part of a large cluster; there's a sort of tiny cave underneath. The 'Pocket Pals' Box is inside, under some leaves and twigs. If the rocks have, say, washed away or something, please email me at - tiredmom5kidz@yahoo.com. Oh, and write down a book title along with your stamp. Either the one you *hopefully* just got at the library, or some random one you like. Because I'm totally odd that way.
