This letterbox celebrates two things at once, with a pair of stamps: a dog, Keilo, who loved to walk in this garden, and the dogwood tree leaf, which is plentiful here at the Middletown Nature Gardens.

Apparently dogwood trees are not really named after our canine pets. Instead, there's an old use of the word "dog" to mean a sharp stick used as a spit for roasting. Probably, that's why "hot dogs" are called hotdogs. And this tree's wood has served well in making dogs of that sort. Nonetheless, I couldn't resist the coincidence.

To find this box, enter at the main entrance, walk through the gate and around to the grassy clearing to your right. There are many dogwoods at MNG, but you're looking for the one that's fairly close to Randolph Road, with a little mowed clearing to keep it from being absorbed into the woods.

The letterbox is within ten feet of the dogwood. It's visible from any level, but may require a standing adult's reach to retrieve.
