At Tetherow Crossing you will see the modest home of Andrew and Saphronia Tetherow. The historic wood frame house is over a hundred years old and is located at the ferry (and later bridge) crossing for the Deschutes River. This road was once the main highway between Central Oregon and the Willamette Valley.

To the trailhead: From Highway 97, north of Redmond, head west on Coyner Road. Just before the underpass, turn left on Helmholtz Way. Go to the first road, Tetherow Road, and turn right. Follow this road to a left where you will cross the bridge. Park at the large parking lot on the right.

To the letterbox: Walk to the beginning of a poplar arcade. Turn and go upstream along a small dirt path. Keep your eyes to the left, watching for white figures standing in a field of green. Ignore the two that are identical and multiply the others. Keep on the path until you pass five tall brothers. When your steps match the number you found when you did your multiplication, go left. Don’t forget to look both ways! The letterbox is left of the trail, where juniper meets rock, beneath a stone.
