Background: On one of our visits to our grandparents’ home, we decided to plant a letterbox while we were there. Looking through town, the cemetery seemed like a good place for one, since our grandparents are into genealogy. So Grandma took us out to look for a place to plant the box. Then our cousins checked out the clues we’d made. It was a fun afternoon. We found out why Grandma and Grandpa say they can learn a lot of things by just walking through an old cemetery!
Our stamp represents the closeness of all the generations in our family, and the interest several have in learning about our ancestors.

Info: Woodlawn Cemetery is located at the north side of Clinton, IL, right off Business US 51.

Clues:
From the 4 –way stop at the intersection of Woodlawn and Center Streets, go west on Woodlawn. Enter the cemetery by the first set of gates you find.

Once in the cemetery, drive past the WARNER mausoleum, and take the first left down the steep hill. Park in the grassy triangle near the fork of the road at the bottom of the hill.

Get out of your vehicle and start climbing the hill, looking for the cylindrical BAUMER monument.

Go right to the ROBBINS monument.

Walk up to the Civil War MONUMENT AND CANNONS

Walk north down the road passing the METZGER and McGILL monuments.

Find the monument that has double pillars of brown and white.

From there, walk to the crown monument across the road.

Make your way to the RUNDLE family plot, then turn right, walking along the edge of the cemetery, and watch for the monuments for DR. DAVIS and MITCHELL.

The letterbox will be found between the Mitchell and Davis monuments.

Please return box to its location, using the wire to secure it.
