The "Big Bass Bait" Letterbox:
If you are looking for access to some of nature's simple wonders, come to Walker's Reservoir. This is our favorite fishing area where we have spotted and caught plentiful large and small mouth bass among other fun critters such as freshwater eels & sunfish. Also keep a look out for beavers, bats, snakes, turtles, snails, ducks, and lots of geese!
How do I get there?
Coming from Interstate 84 heading East, take exit 67 and turn right off the ramp up Mile Hill Road in Vernon, CT.
Then take your first right down Reservoir Road and look for a small gravel parking area on the left. This is where you want to park. The letterbox is not far from here.
Clues:
Once you have parked, notice off the the far right there is a handicap accessible platform with a railing; this is where we like to go fishing. Check out the calm water from here and glance across the water... off to the left you can get a glimpse of some rocks where a short hike will take you to a waterfall where our Bass Bait letterbox is hiding. To get to it, look for a telephone pole close to the road & guardrail on your right (if you facing the water) with a yellow marker and follow this dirt path adjacent to the water all the way to the other side of the reservoir. Follow the yellow markers. Once you come to the first bench, facing the bench, look to your left at the large flat rocks stretching across the waterfall. If you have children with you, hold hands because the ledge is pretty high. Hop across the large flat rocks, there are about 5 until you see 3 rocks (used to be nestled close together) just before you reach the grassy area (2 large flat rocks and one small baby rock that was in the middle, jutted upward a little bit, now it has moved about 2 feet forward and the box is a little but exposed). Look under the last big rock to find the Big Bass Bait Box! Grab a stick and look out for snakes! We planted this sardine for my baby's 6th birthday.
