Remember that Hurricane Mountain Road is closed in winter!

These clues closely resemble one of our retired boxes, Black Cap Chickadee Dee Dee, but the hiding spot is different.

This clue is given assuming you have climbed to the top of Black Cap.

We have hiked Black Cap many times. It is an easy hike that is included in many of those touristy-type magazines you pick up in North Conway, but a nice hike anyway. That being said, if you go during the day, expect company.

The Mad Doctors have been thinking of a night hike for many years, but just never got to it. We finally decided to do it, and hiked up to watch the sunset. The hike down was in complete darkness. Of course, if you should be considering a hike to watch the sunset, be prepared with all of the necessary equipment to make it down in the dark safely.

Head up Hurricane Mountain Road to the TNC (The Nature Conservancy) parking area for the Black Cap Trail. Head up the trail to the top, and enjoy the views. When you are done, head back down the trail towards the parking area on Hurricane Mountain Road. Continue down for approximately 13 minutes (as if you are towing a 7 and a 9 year old), to a sign that states TNC Black Cap Mtn. Trail - Black Cap Mtn. 0.4, Peaked Mtn. 3.5, Middle Mtn. 5.5 Hurricane Mtn. Road 0.7.

Standing at this sign, take the trail at 260 degrees. Continue down hill on slab rock, approximately 58 Mad Doctor single steps (start counting with your back to the sign). Standing on the first (and only) rock step down, take a compass reading and find 60 degrees. About 10 feet away on this heading, into the woods, see an oddly shaped tree, that resembles a field hockey stick. Enter the woods, and head to this tree. Between the tree and the path are 2 rocks (on the left, as you face back to the path. What you seek is in the cave between the rocks, (on the side away from the path), covered by sticks.

Thanks for searching!
