History behind the letterbox is below. Could not find historical marker, but box is located along the oilfield.
Here is the history form the Historic Marker:
Discovery well of Luling Field, a major Texas oil area. Wildcatter E.B. Davis drilled on land owned by R. Rios. Well came in Aug. 10, 1922, after 3 dry holes had been drilled in same area. Magnolia (now Mobil) Oil Co. bought filed 1926. By 1969, production was 135,000,000 barrels. history from
Directions:
From Hwy 80 at Stairtown, go northwe3st on FM 671 for 1.3 miles. Turn left into entry drive and park next to pumper on the left. You should see sign on right for "Lebow-Meriweather Lease".
To the Letterbox:
Walk to the gate/cattle crossing. Go to the left corner. Box is below the round metal poles under a rock pile in corner. Be sure to cover it back up.
