At 321, bear NE 34˚and walk to the third upright reflector; bear W 276˚. You will be looking at the Ellis County house that Hollywood loves. Appearing in many movies and television shows, this homestead most famously housed Edna Spalding (Sally Field) and her two children, Frank and Possum Spalding, Mr. Will (John Malkovich), and Moze (Danny Glover) with a special guest appearance by Dallas' own Jerry Haynes (otherwise known as Mr. Peppermint) as Deputy Jack Driscoll. Places in the Heart won many national and international awards, including Best Actress Oscar to Sally Field and Best Writing Screenplay to Robert Benton, who was also the director. Places in the Heart is somewhat autobiographical, as there was a real shootout in Waxahachie (Benton’s hometown), Marshall J.H. Spaulding was killed accidentally by an intoxicated Chas Smith, and Robert Benton is the great-grandson of J.H. Spaulding through his mother’s side.
After viewing the house and trying to imagine the 1984 scenes, bear SW225˚, walk to 17, and search for a container.
