Oh! No! The farm animals have escaped. Shep the dog has chased Mittens the cat after them. Help the farmer find all seven animals and get them back to the farm safely. Along with Shep and Mittens, you’ll also find Patches the bunny, Norm the sheep, Porky the pig, Bessie the cow, and Earl the horse along the route by following the clues.

1. Patches-Bunny
From the parking lot follow the paved trail past the beach. After the path turns gravel continue past the pines and you’ll find a tree that arches over the path. At its base Patches is hidden under some bark.

2. Norm-Sheep
Continue on the path. Norm came this way looking for some grass. Pass a culvert and come to a fire hydrant. A little path to the right will take you to a spread of four tree trunks. Norm is sleeping in the middle of a three-trunk Elm in that group of trees.

3. Porky-Pig
Back on the main trail you will come to where the trail splits. You should go left there. Continue on and look for a rock formation on your right. Porky thought of finding a hiding spot up there, but couldn’t get up so he continued on in search of a better hiding spot. At the top of the hill he sat to have a rest and noticed a black cherry tree with scaly bark. Look for him resting and eating cherries under a fallen tree behind the cherry tree.

4. Bessie-Cow
Bessie had followed Porky up the hill. She was hungry after her escape from the farm so she continued down the path towards the nice grassy field she could see ahead. When the trail split she thought #1 was her best choice. The trail winds left following the tree line. Bessie spotted a birdhouse and headed that way, but then she saw a butterfly fluttering toward the walnut trees the other way. She realized, when she got to the tree, how tired she was. Do you see her sleeping behind the walnut tree across from the birdhouse?

5. Earl-Horse
Earl had already been in the field by the time Bessie got there. He wanted to see where else the trail would lead. He headed into the trees, following the path in 56 paces before coming to a stop at a small group of small dead trees on the right. Look carefully and you’ll find him hidden behind these trees.

6. Mittens-Cat
Shep was still chasing Mittens. She ran and ran looking for a place she’d be safe! While there are a lot of trees here, Mittens was afraid Shep would find her so she kept going. She was running through an area with a lot of pine trees on the right when she spotted the perfect hiding spot. It was across from a birdhouse to the right, 17 steps in from the trail in a large tree with branches that make a V. Mittens is hiding in the V. Be sure to replace her in this spot carefully when you are finished.

7. Shep-Dog
Shep was having so much fun chasing birds, bees, and gophers through the trees he didn’t even realize he’d lost Mittens. He followed the trail toward the water tower, past several houses, and then continuing past a bench and markers #2 and #3. The trail got shady again and Shep slowed to a walk. Shep stayed on the trail and watched for a good spot to wait for someone to find him. He spotted a group of large rocks on the right and crawled into a small cool spot between the rocks to take a nap. Do you see him there?

Now that you have found all the animals, take your collection of stamped family farm frenzy animals to the pavilion for a Barnyard Dance (you may know the book by this title by Sandra Boynton that inspired this letterbox).
