Terrain Difficulty: Moderate (moderate slope, 2.5 mi RT)
Status: alive
The Hanging Lake Trail is one of the most popular hikes in Colorado, but it would be a shame to not go a little further up the trail to see Spouting Rock, where water has dissolved a passage through the limestone to exit out of a sheer cliff wall as a spectacular waterfall. Hopefully this box will encourage you to see it. I first hiked here looking for a box with the same name by Jay Drew, so I placed this box in his honor.
Directions:
From Glenwood Springs go east on I70 to Hanging Lake exit and go under I70 to parking for Hanging Lake Trail.
Clues:
Walk east on cement bike path to Hanging Lake Trail and go up to boardwalk leading to lake. Go left and up to Spouting Rock, then go back 5 posts from corner (counting corner post) and go right off trail a few steps behind a third clump of trees. LB is at back base of clump next to a boulder under rocks.
