Girl Scouts Rock! Letterbox
The Cranberry Bog is one of the best places to hike, especially if you’re a dog. In the nicer months, your pup can take a quick dip on your way past the lily pond. In addition to dogs, horses also share these paths. [This letterbox was planted by Girl Scout Troop 85081 of Chelmsford on October 10, 2012. The box has faired some very tough winters and is in great condition, so we decided to make it open to the public. We hope you enjoy finding it as much as we enjoyed planting it.]
1. Start at the Carlisle Cranberry Bog on Curve Street in Carlisle, Massachusetts.
2. Park at the lot next to the large farm house or along the road and then walk to the farm house.
3. Follow the trail next to the sign that tells about the Cranberry Bog. If you are here in the fall, look at the plants on your right to see if you can see cranberries growing. At some point late September to early October, the farmer and crew will flood the fields and harvest the berries. It’s quite a production.
4. Turn left onto the trail that parallels Curve Street.
5. Turn right to follow the rocky path between the cranberry bog and the lily pond. Look in the pond for the great blue heron, geese and ducks.
6. Walk past the sign that talks about Water Flow into the bog.
7. Follow the trail straight. Soon you will see a blue cross sign that indicates a trail going into the woods. Take the trail.
8. Immediately after entering the trail, take a left onto a smaller path.
9. Soon you will get to a tree in the middle of the path.
10. At the tree in the middle of the path, take 13 steps forward and then turn left to face the rock wall.
11. Look for a long rock resting on top of a triangular rock. Your treasure can be found behind here.

Brownie Friend Letterbox
Here is a second box planted by our girls when they were Brownies.
1. Continue along the path, and it will soon turn to the right. You may get a better view of the heron who sometimes like to hang out in this area of the pond.
2. Soon you will come to an orange and white pole. Turn right- don’t go into the woods.
3. You will pass a big rock with trees growing out of it and then another big rock on the left.
4. When you meet up with another path, go straight.
5. Look for a rock on the right with baby rocks on its back. The box is hidden here.
Once you’ve made your find, you can continue your loop back to the parking area.
• With the rocks to your back, continue to the right along the path you were just on, passing a white and yellow pole.
• Pass through a rock wall and continue straight.
• When you see a blue cross indicating another trail, do not take it, stay straight (or bare rightish depending on how you see this).
• You will go slightly up and then down. Before heading up again, look to your right and take the path into the woods.
• You will go beneath a large leaning tree. As the path veers to the left, go down. Be careful – the path seems a little washed out here.
• Soon you will see another lily pond on your left.
• When you come to an intersection, notice the tree on your right that has been chewed by beavers. Turn right here.
• This path will bring you all the way back to the parking lot.
