Letterbox Name: The Last Pin-up: Vampirella
Location: Oak Wood Cemetery, Northbrook, IL
Distance: Less than a mile

I am the object of your search, and of your gaze.
I am a hunter, now hunted.
You will seek me in dead places, in spaces between cool civility and untamed nature.
You will find me hidden, waiting for you.

You must make your way deep into Oak Wood Cemetery. When you are once again on foot, seek out a place where a servant might find rest.

Stop and find your bearings. At two hundred sixty-five degrees, you’ll spy a fallen log. Get up and walk thirty-six steps to that log.

Now look for a second fallen log, this one at two hundred sixty-two degrees. Traverse the unlucky distance of thirteen steps to that log.

Pause for a moment in this space between manicured normalcy and unkempt wildness. Do you know what you seek? Do you know what to do once you find me? If you’ve come this far, then you surely must.

I am the last of my kind.

The hands that created me have vowed never to carve my like again. I have, in a very real sense, broken the mold. But know that I am not for the innocent, or the faint-hearted.

Seeing that you are assured of your intentions, shall we return to the hunt?

From the second log, spy a leaning tree at three hundred five degrees. A short walk of twenty-five steps will take you there. On your left, you’ll see a fallen branch on the ground. I await you, tucked safely into the west end of that branch.

The Great American Pin-up series has been, first and foremost, a celebration of the style, femininity, and fun of pin-up art over the years. While great care was taken to select images that would not offend, it’s worth noting that some letterboxers, including those traveling with younger children, might find the images to be “rated PG-13”. That said, we hope that you enjoy the images as much as we’ve enjoyed selecting and carving them.

Please note: The stamp is a bit large, and will require a 3”x 5” space for stamping.

Hike length: 0.1 miles
