Convict Hill Quarry Park is a beautiful place to wander along woodland trails. It was originally called Oak Hill Quarry, but was renamed Convict Hill because 8 convicts died while helping supply limestone for rebuilding the Texas State Capital between 1882 and 1885. It eventually became a park but was essentially an overgrown dumping ground until an organization called the Friends of Convict Hill Quarry Park cleaned it up and turned this piece of Texas history into a neighborhood gem.

Directions:
From Hwy 290 go southeast on Convict Hill Road about 0.5 mile to Convict Hill Quarry Park on the right. You can go a little further and turn right on Robert Kleburg Lane to park.

Clues:
Walk on gravel path, going straight at first two Y-junctions, to another Y-jct with metal "jail" representing the convict history of the park on the left. Go left to stone bench, then continue 35 steps to just past inmate #2098 on the right. Go right off trail 10 steps up to a group of small cedar trees. LB is behind center one under a "jail" of rocks. You can continue on path to return to entrance or explore more of the park.

Hike length: 0.1 miles
