This Letterbox celebrates the 2nd of this years “Total Lunar ‘Blood Moon’ Eclipses”. It is the second half of the stamp that was planted on the 1st Blood Moon on April 4th – since this eclipse promises to be visible much longer than the last one, I am planting it a little early- so you have plenty of time to enjoy a letterboxing hike to get your best view!

A Note Before you begin: You will need to use colored markers or inkpads for this box- Black, Red, Orange, and Brown- the Stamp will have the best effect using these colors.

To Find the starting location of this box, as before, you need to know the name of a Waukesha County park that has the first four letters of the second word of the name of this Box in the first five letters of it’s name – Good Luck!

As you enter the park, just past the entrance gate is a parking lot on your right. Find a spot to park your vehicle and make your way to the South End of the parking lot to find the wooden trail map (and pick up a map if you did not get one at the entrance). You will be starting your hike on the trail that is the color of the Moon you are looking for. From the map, take a compass reading of 130 degrees; you should spot the trail markers where you need to begin. As you walk toward the trail markers you will notice a tree in between the two markers, facing the tree- take the trail at 180 degrees.

Following the trail you will want to heed the first warning on the left and stick to the right as you begin heading through the woods. At the Y – stay the course and quickly cross the pavement and continue to follow your trail. You may begin to hear the howls of some 4-legged friends – they might be feeling the pull of the full moon as well! At your next decision, it’s time to depart your course and follow the call of your friends to the right. You will see a tower the color of your new chosen path, stay the course and ignore an exit, a Y is just up ahead. At the Y, Left you should choose, keeping your furry friends on your on your right. At the next crossroads you will see a lone tree in the middle of your path, from there 160 degrees you should head. Follow straight away- are you starting to feel caged in? Just past a broken giant you will see an escape on your left- take that trail through the broken giants - just watch your step as you go up! Now at the T, 80 degrees you should go, slowly ascending, now at almost the top, a small footpath on the left you will see, marked by a mid sized rock (If you pass a broken, burled, bald one - you have gone to far). Follow the lesser path over a mossy log, a leaning giant on your right, over and under (or around), curving until you get to a T. Now take the path at 70 degrees, up you go winding through the wood, over one and then another, under an arch then shortly to a Y. Now to make your choice - either take the path at 30 degrees OR go back 20 steps, and follow the mossy log on your left until it forms a Y with the bald log next to it, what you are seeking in hidden there, under rock and bark.

Now go back and take the path at 30 degrees, follow the path until you are out of the trees - Stop and enjoy the view! This still might be the best spot to sit and enjoy this beautiful Moon!

To find your way back to your vehicle, you could retrace your steps or from the top of the hill, continue to follow the tree line North until you see the wood chipped green trail on your left, just before the park road- continue to follow this path and it will lead you back to the entrance parking lot - or follow the road north back to your vehicle.

Hope you were able to view this second Blood Moon, and enjoyed your hike!

Box updates appreciated- Thanks!
