ABNEGATION—AMITY—CANDOR—DAUNTLESS—ERUDITE. Your faction doesn’t choose you—you choose it. In post-apocalyptic, dystopian Chicago, Veronica Roth has painted a society in which each must choose. Which are you? Or maybe you are DIVERGENT!

Make your way to Emma Long Park. From 2222 & 360, drive west for short distance and turn left on City Park Road, then 5 miles to Turkey Creek Trailhead on right. Dog friendly and no fee to pay. Logbook in last box. Use gray, black, red, blue, yellow.

Head down the trail to the ½ mile marker.

ABNEGATION blame selfishness for human nature's errors. They devote themselves to serving others. They wear all Grey.
"I will be my undoing if I become my obsession.
I will forget the ones I love if I do not serve them.
I will war with others if I refuse to see them.
Therefore I choose to turn away from my reflection,
To rely not on myself but on my brothers and sisters,
To project always outward until I disappear.
And only God remains.”
½ Mile Marker—10 steps forward V Oak Tree—6 steps larger oak —small crevice behind. Remember to wear gray!

CANDOR value honesty and cannot tell lies. They say whatever is the truth, even if it gets them into trouble. The Candor believe that truth is black and white, so that is what they wear.
¾ Mile Marker to trail map stand—off main trail up mini trail 25 steps—20 steps up and left from mini stump—medium oak among the cedars—stump waving several arms of justice—triple trunk oak—triple spor at base. Remember to wear black & white.

AMITY dislike war, discord, strife. Aggression is the root of all evil. They wear comfortable red or yellow.
Cross creek—pass 4.5 ft stump on right—cross creek again—3 ft tombstone rock on right—1800 for 9 steps—overhanging limb— few steps up hill 4 oaks surrounding fallen log—2 ft behind tree on right—under leaning rock. Remember to wear red or yellow.

ERUDITE blame human ignorance for the faults of society. Their symbol is a single blue eye that represents their knowledge of the world. Erudite wear blue, as it calms and stimulates the brain.
Cross creek—150 steps—cedar & oak embracing mid-trail—large boulders on right—up hill 25 steps—pass under arching branch to huge slanting rock face—cedar on left 5 steps—base under rock. Remember to wear blue.

DAUNTLESS blame cowardice for society's problems. They face their fears through bravery. Dauntless always dress in black.
"We believe that cowardice is to blame for the world's injustices. We believe that peace is hard-won, that sometimes it is necessary to fight for peace. We believe
• that justice is more important than peace.
• in denying fear the power to influence our decisions.
• in the courage that drives one person to stand up for another.
• in acknowledging fear and the extent to which it rules us.
• in facing fear no matter the cost to comfort, happiness, or sanity.
• in shouting for those who can only whisper, in defending those who cannot defend themselves.
• in bold words and in bold deeds to match them.
• that pain and death are better than cowardice and inaction.
• "Ignorance" is defined not as stupidity but as lack of knowledge.
• Lack of knowledge inevitably leads to lack of understanding.
• Lack of understanding leads to disconnect among people with differences.
• Disconnection among people with differences leads to conflict.
• Knowledge is the only logical solution to the problem of conflict.
1 Mile Marker—126 steps—log along creek side—large flat rocks on right to sit on—oak with cedar behind it 15 steps up from rock ledge—3 ft stump on left—large rock leaning against it. Remember to wear yellow for courage.

Log book in last box. Rehide well and return way you came. But wait! Did you locate the Raven tattoo worn by heroine Tris? The clue is close at hand! And a few feet away!

If you are in a hiking mood, continue on the trail for a 3 mile loop. Or go back the way you came for 2+ mile round trip. Log in on LbNA or AtlasQuest
