Difficulty: Easy
Distance to letterbox: 200 yards
This box took me two tries to place. First attempt was were the bridge was suppose to be, but after spending an hour on back roads and never finding, I re-researched and found the bridge was moved to Wolters Park. So, this is where the box was placed.
Here is the history of this bridge from the historical marker: Mulberry Creek Bridge - Built in 1888 by the King Iron Bridge Company of Cleveland, Ohio, and its sub-contractor, A. J. Tullock and Company of Leavenworth, Kansas, this bridge provided easy access to the developing community of Schulenburg. Located on the Old Praha Road, it was part of a major travel route during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The 60-foot iron structure, described as a single span, box-chord, pin-connected modified Pratt low truss bridge with counters, cost $1,422 at the time of its construction. It is one of the few bridges of this style still standing. Recorded Texas Historic Landmark - 1990
Directions:
From I-10, go south on Hwy 77, passing Hwy 90, then turn right on Baumgarten. In about 4 blocks, go left on Bohlman street and follow it into park entry, then park on left near huge white American Legion building.
To the Letterbox:
Walk past front of American Legion hall, then left down the side to the back. Follow sidewalk that goes toward small brown building, then exit out gate, cross road, and admire the bridge. Now return through the gate, then follow the inside of the fence around to a gate. Go to other side of gate entry, next to wooden arbor corner. Box is on top of fence rail about 5 or 6 foot up, in vines.
Hike length: 0.1 miles
