Tris Speaker was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937. Born in Hubbard, Texas, he was an outfielder nicknamed ‘The Grey Eagle' making his debut for the Boston Red Sox on September 12, 1907. For twenty-two seasons, he played with the Boston Red Sox (1907-15, as a player manager for the Cleveland Indians (1919-26), Washington Senators in 1927 and Philadelphia athletics in 1928. He ended his career with a record of 3514 hits, 1882 runs scored, 117 homeruns, 1529 runs batted in and a .345 batting average. He died in Lake Whitney, Texas, at age 70. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery, but I didn't find the grave.

I left my "grey eagle" box in his honor. Drive into the cemetery and park at the street even with the flagpole. Walk a few steps on down the road and look for the Bowmer plot on the right. Facing the name look to the back of the cement surrounded plot. The box is in the left corner behind the bush under a rock.

Hike length: 0.1 miles
