The “Five Fingers of FRIGHT” are lurking about!

To find them you will need to gather your courage and visit three Historical Cemeteries to find the MANY clues to uncover them. Your trip will not take you too far by car, but you WILL have to get out and walk to find your clues, and you may want to plan at least an hour to complete your search. You will start with the newest cemetery and work your way to the oldest, but be warned; at least two of these are easy to miss! Also, please be respectful of these locations, they are landmarks, and many of the headstones are in poor condition, enjoy the history- so they will continue to remain in peace.

**Please also note, this box may be more challenging to find in the winter months, the older cemeteries may not get the attention and snow removal to make clues or parking accessible.

Make your way to the city of New Berlin, in the Northwestern corner of the city is the intersection of Coffee Rd. and Racine Ave. - here is where you will start.

Cemetery #1
Heading south on Racine Ave. you will pass Shady Lane and start to go uphill. On the driver’s side, you will see a warning siren on top a hill, there is a small gravel/grass driveway just past that, turn onto it and drive up the hill and park.

Find the Brown sign and note the name of the cemetery and year the cemetery was established- you will need this information later.

Take a moment to read the history of this cemetery and record what the Landmark # is: ________

Now stand in the middle of the open gate - can you hear the spirits calling you? Take a bearing of 15 degrees and continue 12 steps to a tall headstone. The first five fingers greet you there- now take note of the FIRST and LAST name of the MAN buried there under the five fingers:________________________

Feel free to explore this small cemetery further and then continue on your way

Cemetery #2
Return to Racine Ave. and continue south, passing Schwartz Rd. You will come to a curve sign, slow down, just as the curve begins there will be an orange construction cone and a green/yellow gate on the passenger’s side- turn onto the gravel drive that leads to the gate and follow it to the left to the Warning! Sign.

Once parked you will see that facing Racine Ave. is another sign, walk over to it but be careful, it is on a slight slope. Again note the name of the cemetery on the brown sign, the year it was established, and the Landmark number:

___________________________
Est._______________
Landmark #_______

Now walk back toward your car and to the wooden roofed sign and take a moment to read the front, and then turn to the back of the sign.
So many young lives lost-
On January 28th, 1858- note the number of days old the deceased was:____
What was his Mother’s maiden name:_______________

From the South side of this wood sign, take a bearing of 170 degrees and continue 31 steps. Again the Five Fingers greet you-
Note the LAST name of the deceased below the five fingers: _____________

If you look to the south there is another wooded sign, walk to it and read it if you dare- See what lies beneath!!!

Cemetery # 3
Return again to Racine Ave. heading South, the first set of stoplights you come to will be Lawnsdale Rd. – make a left turn onto this road and continue, just past a curve until you reach an arrow of decision. You will want to do the right thing and then quickly look to your left, you will see where you need to be, but enter using the SW drive, just past the large iron sign. Drive up and park your vehicle off to the side, in the small open grass space on the right, just past the large crypt. Head over to the Large Iron sign facing the Road you were just on-
Read the marker sign facing the road and find the Cemetery name, the year the first BURIAL was recorded, and the Landmark number:

______________________________________________
1st Burial_____________________
Landmark #____________________

Once you are finished walk to the Crypt, take a peek inside- Dust to Dust!
Record the Last Name on the Right side of the Iron Door____________.
Now it’s time to rely on your notes-

Using the NAME of the person from Cemetery #1 – take the 4th and 5th letter of his LAST name to find a compass direction ____.
Stand at the corner of the crypt that faces that direction.
Now take the last 2 digits of the year that cemetery #1 was est. _____ and subtract from it the compass bearing you first used at cemetery #1____
This will be the compass heading you will need_____.
Now use that 1st compass bearing from Cemetery #1 again, and go that many steps forward_____.

A familiar headstone carving awaits you, under it is a FIRST name, it would be HANDY to record the name____________________.

The Five fingers of Fright are closing in on you-

From this Headstone, DOUBLE the number of the compass bearing you just used, then use that number as your new compass heading ______ to look for a headstone with this name:

Name of Cemetery #1- first word, 4th letter ____
Name of Cemetery #2- first word 2nd letter___
Name of Cemetery #3- second word 4th letter ___
Name of Cemetery #1 second word 7th letter____
Name of Cemetery #2 first word 6th letter____
Name of Cemetery #3 second word 3rd letter____

Once you locate this headstone, ADD the following four numbers:

The # of days old the deceased was from Cemetery #2 ____
Last 2 digits from the year Cemetery #1 was established ____
Last 2 digits from the year Cemetery #2 was established ____
Last 2 digits from the year Cemetery #3’s first burial ____

This number will give you your new compass bearing _____.

Then use the last 2 digits again from the year of Cemetery #2, and take ____ steps on the new compass bearing.

From this new location, you will be looking for something in the very NEARBY vicinity- but before you do, take a moment to determine the age of the deceased from this headstone ____.

Now, to find what you are seeking, use the following letters:

The 3rd letter of the First name from the headstone at Cemetery #1 ____
The 3rd letter of the Last name from the headstone at Cemetery #1 ____
The 4th letter of the last name from the headstone at Cemetery #2_____
The 4th letter of the Mother’s maiden name on sign from Cemetery #2 ____
The 6th letter of the First name from the headstone at Cemetery #3______
The 4th letter of the Last name from the Crypt at Cemetery # 3 ____

Now that you know what you are looking for, locate this object.

This Object has an owner, for your last clues-
Count the total number of LETTERS used in the NAMES ONLY (not dates) that you see before you_________

Add to this number the following numbers:

# of Landmark from Cemetery #1 _________
# of Landmark from Cemetery #2 _________
# of Landmark from Cemetery #3 __________

Now you have your compass bearing ________,

Then, taking the age of the nearby deceased, proceed that many steps forward on the above compass bearing ______.

At long last, The “Five Fingers of FRIGHT” await you- to uncover them, bend down to find them lurking under a flat cover, the color of Ghosts!

Hope you enjoyed finding this letterbox, and the cemetery tours. Please re-seal and recover box well. Updates always appreciated- Thanks!

Happy Halloween!
