This letter box is in Lincoln Park, one of the many jewels of West Seattle with great views of the Puget Sound. There is a mated pair of eagles nesting near this box. We also have owls, play structures, a wading pool, and an Olympic size swimming pool on the water front path.
Your adventure starts at the paved road at the north end of the park (the intersection of Fontanelle and 47th Ave SW). As you walk into the park there is a green trash can on the right side of the path. As the path curves south take a turn at your first right on to a dirt foot path – you are heading west. Soon you will walk between two tall trees on either side of the path and a short distance away you will reach two park benches and two trash cans. Continue by taking the path to the left – you are heading south. Walking on this path for a few minutes you will see a play structure on the left (these will be under construction September – December of 2016), Notice that to the right are sweeping vistas of the Sound, Vashon and Blake Islands. It is glorious… be sure to stop and behold the beauty. After a few more minutes of walking south on this path you will see three benches facing west and the path will begin a short, slight incline. As the path levels off again you will come to another intersection of paths, take a left at this intersection (you will know you are at the right intersection when you see a west facing bench on the right, a swimming sign with an arrow and an “obey the scoop laws” sign together on a fence post. You are heading east after taking the left turn. Walk past two very tall, large trees on the left side of the path (the second tree houses the eagles nest ¾’s of the way up the tree where it bifurcates and in the spring you may see & hear fledglings in that nest). Shortly after you pass the “eagle tree” you will see a very small foot path on the left. Turn here – you are heading north. Walk this small foot path until it splits. Take the left fork of the path. Approximately 38 paces from the beginning of the left fork, stop and look around (to the right you will see a tree and it will have a smaller tree growing out of it.) Facing north and to the left, facing west again, and walk approximately 25 paces (you will have to walk under & around large hanging tree branches) to the destination. Find two large trees growing side-by-side and touching at their bases (twins). You are still facing west. Walk around "the twins" until you find a nook at the base of one of the trees and there you will find the letter box. We tried to camouflage the box with some pine needs but it is visible without moving them aside.
Please leave a stamp in our notebook, sign and date if you would like. We’d love for you to try out our stamp, too! If our ink pad is dried out send an email so we can replace it. Please leave our letterbox in its exact location for others to find on their adventures. It is our hope to change the rubber stamp out seasonally, so please come back each quarter to add a new stamp (and maybe a treat) to your collection.
The fantastic four
PS - This trip is less than a mile round trip.
