Big Horn County, Montana has mountains, rivers, farmland, bluffs, sagebrush, rattlesnakes, sugar beets, cattle, horses and so many other wonders that many consider the definition of western living. Those of us who live here also know that some very creative and artistic people hale from this part of the state. Just a few are:
*Harry Koyama-Koyama is a renowned impressionistic painter of wild animals and scenery. Visit his gallery on Montana Avenue in Billings.
*Kevin Red Star-Red Star grew up in Lodge Grass, MT. He started his art education at the AIAI in New Mexico. Today he has paintings in museum around the globe.
*Stan Lynde-Lynde created the Rick O’shay syndicated cartoon strip and later became a well-known author.
The JailHouse Gallery in downtown Hardin (309 N. Center Avenue) continues the art legacy of the county by exhibiting student art, local artists and traveling shows. Stop in to check out the art and the goodies in the gift shop. Then ask the director for the Letter Box and get your art on!
