update 9/08 This is a tough one... I'll get two or three emails stating that it's missing, then someone finds it. Give it a try and let me know what happens.
This is less than 1/4 mile of walking, but some walking in soft sand and uneven surfaces.
Point Pinos Lighthouse is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse on the West coast.
From Cannery Row in Monterey follow the coast around to the point
When you get to the intersection of Ocean View Blvd and Asilomar continue 1/2 mile to a turn out on the side of the road.
Find the "Enjoy the Tide Pools" sign. The lighthouse will be at 75 degrees.
Now walk about 51 steps in the direction of 320 degrees toward the group of logs
Go to the root end of the largest log
Started at the root, take 2 steps / 1 pace along the East side of this log. The box is buried in the sand just along the edge of the log. Please rebury it just 4-5 inches below the surface.
Don't forget to explore the tidepools
To take a tour of the Lighthouse, go back to Asilomar St and the second driveway. They are open 1-4pm. They have a Lighthouse stamp too!
