On May 28, 2006, Tucson Police Officer Gary Schad and his K-9 partner, Miko, were on the trail of a suspected carjacker. Miko pursued the suspect who jumped from a 30 foot overpass, and Miko followed. Miko was put to sleep as a result of the serious injuries he sustained. The Reid Park Dog Park was dedicated as Mikos' Corner in his honor.

Find your way to Miko's Corner. Look for the plaque dedicated to Miko Vom Haus Valkenplatz. From the plaque find the faded red paw print on the sidewalk to your left. Follow the sidewalk as it curves to the southeast. You'll pass near the famous Reid Park Rose Garden. Continue along the curved sidewalk past the green bike rack, past the south entrance to the dog park. Leave the sidewalk and head west on the dirt. Crest over the small grassy knoll. Head north on the asphalt-covered David Bell Bike Path. Faded blue paw prints will help guide you. After passing the place dogs love to play, seek out the Dog Waste bag dispenser. Stand with your back to the dispenser. Spot 5 large mesquite trees. Head to the largest tree. Use your sniffer to find your "bone" under the bush on the northwest side of the tree. Hidden under rocks and duff. Please rehide the box well.

Hike length: 0.1 miles
