On the southern end of Arcadia Wildlife Management Area is a small, rarely-visited cemetery. This is HP34, the Palmer-Burdick-Appley Lot. There are 78 burials here, dated between 1797 and 1901, but the most notable are those of Daniel and Lydia Appley, whose stones are surrounded by a magnificent iron fence.

To reach this location, travel to Spring St (Rte 138) in Hopkinton. You will then turn north onto Grassy Pond Rd (unpaved), following it to the end. Turn left onto Kenney Hill Rd and follow it for almost a 1/4 mile. The cemetery can be seen in the woods on the right.

Walk into the woods and stand with the Appley stones directly in front of you. There is a stone wall that runs along the rear of the cemetery and comes down along the left side and stops. Travel past that left wall so you are outside of the cemetery and follow it towards the rear of the cemetery. About halfway down, there will be a decent sized tree a few feet from the wall. The letterbox is hidden in that tree where the trunks split, covered in sticks.

This is a geocache hybrid (http://coord.info/GC6C29B). There are separate books for stamping and for geocache logging. Due to the size of the container, you will need to provide your own ink. Needless to say, please do not remove the stamp so that others may enjoy it for years to come.

Those who are buried here have long been forgotten, but this place is still a quaint, peaceful spot. Please respect these souls and this site and keep your hunting to daylight hours. Permission to place was granted by a representative of the Rhode Island Historical Cemetery Commission.
