Letterboxes, Benchmarks, and Geocaches! Three things all sought in the pursuit of finding things. The first letterbox was placed in Dartmoor, Devon, England in 1854. The first survey disks were placed in Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas in 1900. The first geocache, “001. The Original stash” was placed in Oregon on May 3, 2000. This mini series brings those 3 into a triple hybrid. So make sure you find all 3 and hope you enjoy obtaining the Triforce!

Benchmark MY2108

Survey markers are objects placed to mark key survey points on the Earth's surface. Today in the United States, the most common geodetic survey marks are cast metal disks with stamped legends on their face set in rock ledges, embedded in the tops of concrete pillars, or affixed to the tops of pipes that have been sunk into the ground. Such surveys laid the basis for map-making in the United States and across the world.

Letterboxing is an outdoor hobby that combines elements of orienteering, art, and puzzle solving. Letterboxers hide small boxes in publicly accessible places and distribute clues to finding the box in printed catalogs, on one of several web sites, or by word of mouth. Individual letterboxes contain a notebook and a rubber stamp. Finders make an imprint of the letterbox's stamp in their personal notebook, and leave an impression of their personal signature stamp on the letterbox's "logbook". A well known Dartmoor guide James Perrott placed a bottle for visiting cards at Cranmere Pool on the northern moor. From this hikers on the moors began to leave a letter or postcard inside a box along the trail. The next person to discover the site would collect the postcards and post them.

Coordinates are for nearby parking. In order to locate the letterboxes, you first must locate each nearby benchmark. As letterboxes have clues, benchmarks have clues on their page in order to properly locate them. Use these clues to find the nearby benchmark. Once you have located each benchmark, use the hint below to narrow down your search for the letterbox.

Parking is located on a small pull off on the non state highway stretch of Flanders Rd where the Walkup Reservation comes out to the road. Other parking can be found at some of the business plazas nearby or even by coming from the Walkup trails. I've added a waypoint for the trailhead. Some leaves may cover the area but should be an easy find.

Congrats to BlackstoneVal for being the first to receive all 3 pieces of the Triforce!
