Your quest begins at Huiras Lake land preserve just north of Fredonia wi. Take county I just west of Fredonia. You will take the north section of county I located along the Milwaukee river just across the street from waubedonia park. Follow county I until you reach the stop sign. Take a right. You will head up a steep hill and pass the stony hill school on your left. The birthplace of flag day. Follow county I until you see cedar valley road on your left. Take this road. You will see the Huiras lake sign and a small parking slip just as you come up over the hill.
Take the trail directly left of the parking slip. It will take you through a small woods. This woods was once home of the great wolf Dagda and his pack. They were a strong and healthy pack that patrolled the Prarie land below, keeping the deer herds free of disease. The pack lived here for many years until man arrived. You can still see evidence of their homestead to your left. They built a home and farmstead, disrupting the deer herds and hunting the wolves until Dagda was left alone to fend for himself. He hid in the low lying forest ahead.
One day a young boy by the name of Jacob Wilks left his mother side as she tended to their sheep. He was a curious young lad all of 4 years old. Take the trail to your left. Stay on the next fork to your left as well. Jacob chased a large monarch along the Prarie
Edge until it flew away. He then spotted a rabbit and continued following it until the trail came to an end. Follow the Wilks way sign to your left. Then at the top of the trail follow it to your right. It now began to get dark and the boy grew scared of the many creaks and hoots he heard around him. He began to cry. Dagda heard the boys crys and began to follow him quietly. He was fearful of men but this was a small one and he carried no weapon. The trail will take you down a winding path to the low lands near the lake. Jacob didn't see the lake edge and fell into it. Dagda rushed to the young boys aid and pulled him to safety. You will notice a tree 5 paces to your left before the fork to lake plank walk begins. Walk 5 paces to this tree and look in its base. A large rock is tucked inside. Stamp up and replace rock. This is the tree that the boy and wolf met for
Many years. Inseparable. Many years have passed but his spirit had been spotted along the lakes edge protecting small children from danger. You can take the trail back the way you came or take the opposite one. They both lead to the Prarie edge. Enjoy this hidden treasure.

Hike length: 2-3 miles
