Hisey Park: Woodland Trail

This letterbox was created by Waynesville Girl Scout Troop #42144 to fulfill their Letterboxing Badge. Our brownie troop crest is the Bee, which symbolizes ‘Hard Work and Having Fun While You’re Doing It!’, therefore our Letterbox name is the Busy Bees.

Hisey Park History:
Hisey Park was acquired in 2003. With the help of the Hisey family, Wayne Township and the County Commissioners we were able to acquire this property and develop it into a wonderful park. This historic farm property was purchased from the Hisey Estate utilizing funding available through the Clean Ohio Grant Fund Program. The park was dedicated in 2005 and will incorporate nature trails, views, overlooks, wetlands and a learning center.

Clue:
Begin your journey at the Trailhead Sign which overlooks the baseball/softball fields. Find the trail identified as ‘Woodland Interpretive Trail Loop’- the Busy Bees letterbox is hidden on this trail and is approximately a ½ mile hike from where you are standing now.

Head into the woods on the trail and follow along the creek. The path will make a sharp right turn and head up the hill. Near the top of the hill, the path will split into multiple trails- veer right. You know you are on the right path if you pass the Woodland Learning Station #4 sign. Up ahead you will see a gazebo with a picnic table under it and a deck overlooking the Hisey property. Don’t miss this view! It’s a beautiful shot of the Little Miami River Valley and the Hisey Wetland restoration project.
After admiring the view, head back to the gazebo area. From the concrete pad, take 10 steps in a North/Northeast direction towards the wooded tree-line. And then take another 10 steps into the woods towards a double tree (deciduous & Cedar, I think). The Busy Bee letterbox is on the ground on the other side of these 2 trees.
CAUTION- watch out for poison ivy!!

Please be inconspicuous when entering the woods from the gazebo area and take care in hiding the box again. Thanks for finding the Busy Bee Letterbox!

Hike length: 1 mile
