This letterbox is part of the GO and Be Active! program in York County, PA. It will be available from June 1, 2016 – August 14, 2016. Further details about the program may be found at www.goyork.org.

The GO and Be Active! program requires you to search for up to 30 “activities” – wooden posts with engraved plates on them, instead of a traditional letterbox and stamp. Please carefully rub the impression (with a colored pencil or crayon) from the engraved plate onto your GO and Be Active! rubbing sheet, available at any York County Library.

This letterbox is located at Richard M. Nixon County Park and should be accessed from the lower parking lot. GO York! level of difficulty = Hard.

• Starting at the parking lot, walk toward the little wooden bridge that crosses the creek.
• Cross the bridge and continue on the trail. There will be a small pond on your right and a small stream on your left.
• Walk past the pond and over a little bridge that has red 4x4’s on both sides of it.
• Continue walking on the trail so that the stream is on your left. At the intersection go straight onto Bird Hollow Trail. The trail will go up hill and have wooden steps.
• As you follow the trail you will come to another intersection. Keep following Bird Hollow Trail.
• At the top of the hill there will be a wooden bench. Take a moment to see if you can spot any wildlife. Continue following the trail straight.
• As you walk you will come to another intersection. Make a left and the trail will enter a field.
• As you walk along the fields’ edge you will come to another intersection. Make a left onto Old Field Trail. The trail will go through the middle of the field.
• Walk through the field until you come to a wooden observation deck. Take a moment to enjoy the view of the surrounding area. Here is where you will find the post.
• Continue walking straight on the trail through the field.
• You will come to an intersection. Continue straight on the trail labeled Nature Center.
• The trail will bend to the left and re-enter the woods.
• You will come to another intersection. Make a right and follow the trail down over the hill.
• Once at the bottom of the hill, continue following the grass trail so that the small stream is on your right.
• Follow the trail back to the parking lot where you parked your vehicle.

Hike length: 1-2 miles
